Case Study Compliance Review Process:
The term “compliance” takes on new meaning when we look at
overall school quality and program improvements in relation to student
outcomes. Instead of the “old” system of checking records and files to see if
the paperwork was “in compliance” with state and federal requirements this new
approach consists of gathering evidence related to three focus areas through a
collaborative case study review process. The focus areas presently are:
-
Access to the General Curriculum
-
Transition
-
Behavior Strategies and Discipline
Teams of general and special educators work together to
gather and analyze student work, and relevant information, that will describe
the programs offered and progress made. The process used is similar to a case study review and may include a
timeline of the student’s educational experiences and services, work samples,
IEP, progress reports, assessment information, and any other information that
contributes to creating a full picture of the student’s school experience (e.g.
medical, social/emotional, behavioral, extracurricular, attendance, etc.) In addition, interviews are held with
parents, students, school administrators and school board members.
Classroom observations are also conducted.
A collaborative team of building level and visiting team
members carries out this process.
The visiting team members are New Hampshire educators who volunteer their time to
participate.
During the 2002-2003 school year, more than 370 educators participated in visits to
27 school
districts and 5 private schools.
This Case Study Compliance Review is required by all SAU’s
and private schools seeking NHDOE Special Education Program Approval.
